6 Reasons to Upgrade Your Network Infrastructure
Network traffic is going to increase with the growth of IoT but many networks aren’t ready for it. Here’s 6 reasons why you might need an upgrade.
Reason #1: The network traffic is going to increase – is your network infrastructure ready for it?
As you are well aware, the network traffic is something that is getting bigger every year because of the Internet of Things, Cloud Computing and other factors. In fact, network traffic worldwide is set to go up by 3 times by 2019. This should not surprise you given that there are so many devices connected online and the fact that video streaming services are so popular. Gartner expected 23 billion “things” or interconnected devices to be online by 2019. Is your network infrastructure capable of handling such a massive increase in internet traffic? Maybe it needs an upgrade.
Reason #2: Your network is 11x times slower than it should be
If you have an old network, it is likely that it is not able to support the massive technology demands of the workforce of today. The wireless technology of these days allows you to work anytime, anywhere, at amazing speeds. Wireless access points, for example, can help deliver speeds of 6.9 Gbps or higher, which is about 12 times faster than what we had only a few years ago. The older generation network infrastructure cannot handle this. So you need to consider an upgrade.
Reason #3: Your employees require more time on the network.
Employees these days expect to be allowed to work from anywhere, they demand anytime, anywhere access to the business applications. Cloud computing is a major new development. You cannot provide for this if you are still using an old network infrastructure. It is time for an upgrade, certainly. This could help boost the productivity.
Reason #4: You have underestimated the threats to your network.
Have you considered the threats to your network seriously enough? Hackers of today are more sophisticated than before; they are smarter and more than capable of penetrating into an older network. The question is, are you prepared for this? You should start by upgrading your network infrastructure, which means new switches, routers, and wireless systems, which come with intelligent sensors and enforcers.
Reason #5: Your IT personnel are busy with the maintenance of the system all the time.
If all that your IT staff do with their spare time is to maintain the network infrastructure, then you should consider upgrading the old network hardware. If you don’t change with the times, your business will not grow, and your IT personnel will spend most of their time and resources troubleshooting the old network systems. Switch to a more advanced infrastructure which can speed up the network operations and deployment.
Reason #6: You are worried about running certain applications as you feel that they might crash the network.
One of the biggest reasons to go for a comprehensive network upgrade is because you cannot run some of the more advanced and data-heavy applications on an old, crumbling network. You need a powerful network infrastructure, one that is robust and modern to run advanced applications. Going for a complete overhaul of the network hardware will ensure that it doesn’t come crashing down when you run a major application on it.
